Air Filter

An Air Filter is a device which removes foreign materials, often solid particles from the air. In an automobile, they filter the air of dust and other particles before it enters the carburetor.

Types of Motorcycle Air Filters
There are two main types of Motorcycle Air Filters used in automobiles:

• Combustion Air Filter
• Cabin Air filter

Materials used for making Motorcycle Air Filter
Some of the most common materials used for making motorcycle air filter are:

• Paper
• Fiberglass
• Polyester

Paper Air Filter is the one most commonly used in automobiles because they are inexpensive and disposable. Though paper gives good filtration, its air flow is not up to the mark. Cotton Air Filters are considered as the best because of their durability and technological advantages.

Maintenance of Motorcycle Air Filter

• While washing care should be taken not to wring or twist the inner and outer elements to avoid cracking.
• After washing, proper lubrication is required.
• Air Filters, particularly the combustion air filter type need to be changed at the time of every oil-change, or even more frequently depending upon the operating conditions of the vehicle.
