Ball Bearing

Ball Bearing
There are many types of bearings meant for different purposes. They are: ball bearing, roller ball bearing, ball thrust bearing, roller thrust bearings and tapered roller thrust bearings. Amongst these, Ball Bearing is the most common type of bearing.

In a ball bearing, the load is transmitted from the outer race to the ball, and from the ball to the inner race. It only contacts the inner and outer race at a very small point since the ball is a sphere and in the process helps it spin very smoothly. If the bearing is overloaded, the balls can squeeze and ruin the bearings.

Types of Ball Bearing
Steel and ceramic ball bearings are the most commonly used types for two-wheelers.

Functions of Ball Bearing
The main function of the auto ball bearing is to provide location and support for the moving parts and at the same time ensure there is minimum of friction under all conditions of load and speed. Bearings bear the mass and forces upon the mass of a rotating object. They provide smooth, low friction motion in rotary applications.

Maintenance of Ball Bearing
Ball bearings should be properly maintained to ensure that the two wheeler does not give any problem.
  • To prevent the friction caused by the rubbing of the ball against each other, the balls can be placed in a cage and lubricated.
