Vehicle Brake Shoes
Brake shoes are a part of the brake system. They are attached with the brake lining and are located at the wheels. When brakes are applied, automotive brake shoes are opened with the force of the hydraulic pressure and the lining comes in contact with the brake drum. The friction slows down or stops the vehicle.

Types of Brake Shoes
According to their shape, brake shoes are of two types:
  • Curved
  • Arc-shaped
Uses of Brake Shoes
  • Two wheeler brake shoes support, strengthen and move the brake lining which is soft and brittle.
  • Automotive brake shoes bring the lining into contact with the brake drum or rotor to make stop or slow down the vehicle.
Materials used for making Automotive brake Shoes
Some of the materials used to make brake shoes are:
  • Aluminum
  • Iron
  • Steel
Maintenance of Brake Shoes
  • The shoe linings need to be replaced periodically because a bare brake shoe will wear out to brake drum when in contact.
