Types of Brake Shoes
According to their shape, brake shoes are of two types:
- Curved
- Arc-shaped
- Brake shoes support, strengthen and move the brake lining which is soft and brittle.
- Brake shoes bring the lining into contact with the brake drum or rotor to make stop or slow down the vehicle.
Some of the materials used to make brake shoes are:
- Aluminum
- Iron
- Steel
- The shoe linings need to be replaced periodically because a bare brake shoe will wear out to brake drum when in contact.
