Types of Clutch Plates
- Plain Plate: They are simple plates. They have teeth on their inner circumference and is the inner housing.
- Friction Plate: They have a layer of materials, usually made of kevlar or cork which can cause friction. They have teeth along their outer circumference and is the outer housing.
- Automotive Clutch Plates should have a high heat tolerance.
- They should have high density and high friction features.
- The finish of a clutch plate should be consistent.
Usually, clutch plates are made of the following materials:
- Steel
- Kevlar
- Both the plain and frictional plates should be replaced whenever the clutch is repaired.
- The plain plates, usually made from cork, should be soaked overnight with so that they wont stick together after repairing.
- The frictional clutch plates should be given a proper rub with a sand paper.
