Clutch System
A clutch is a mechanism for transmitting rotation, which can be engaged and disengaged. On most two-wheelers, the clutch lever located on the left handlebar operates the clutch. When the levers are pulled back, the clutch plates disengage and allows the rider to shift gears.

The main function of the system is to engage and disengage the engine from the transmission which enables the driver to start, stop, idle in neutral and shift gears of a vehicle. While the engine is engaged, engine power flows to the transmission and engine power cannot flow through to the transmission while the engine is disengaged.

Maintenance of Clutch System
  • Periodic adjustment of the cables are necessary.
  • The clutch plates should be replaced whenever the clutch is repaired.
  • The lever should be checked for adequate amount of the hydraulic fluid or whether it needs bleeding. They should also be checked for wear and tear.
