Characteristics of Fairings/Windshields
- Two-Wheeler Fairings must withstand high-speed impacts from stones and the abrasive effect of airborne particles such as sand and dust.
- Most Fairings/Windshields are very fragile. They have to be handled with care to avoid scratches and cracks.
- A windshield shields away on-coming winds and gives a better aerodynamic performance.
- When the speed of the vehicle is above 100 km/h, and without a fairing or windshield, a phenomenon known as the windsock effect occurs, where the rider becomes a major source of drag and is pushed back from the handlebars, tiring the rider.
Some of the most commonly used materials for making Fairings are:
- Polycarbonate
- Acrylic
- Carbon
