Fuel Filter

A Fuel Filter is located in the fuel line for the purpose of filtering out dirt and rust particles from the fuel drawn up by the fuel pump from the fuel tank. Some fuel filter can remove moisture from the fuel.

Functions of Fuel Filter

• The vital function of fuel filter is to prevent foreign materials like dirt, rust, paint from entering the fuel system. If these substances enter the system, they will cause wear and failure of the fuel pump and injectors.
• It also improves performance because a fuel with less contaminants will burn more efficiently.
• Some fuel filters are designed to remove moisture from the fuel.
• A fuel filter makes the engine last longer.

Maintenance of Fuel Filter
Fuel filters should be maintained periodically. Fuel filters should be disconnected from the fuel line and cleaned at regular or replace with a new one. If not changed, it can lead to clogging and restrict the fuel flow, leading to low engine performance. Some filters in diesel engines have a bowl-type design in the bottom to collect water which can be drained off by opening a valve in the bottom of the bowl.
