Materials used to make Connecting Rods
The gear cross rods or connecting rods are under a lot of pressure. The materials used to make them should be strong enough to withstand the pressure. Some of the most commonly used materials for making connecting rods are:
- Alloy Steel
- Aluminum
- Titanium
- Cast iron
- Connecting Rods should be light but at the same time strong enough to transmit the thrust of the pistons to the crankshaft.
- They have two holes for connecting the piston pins and crankshaft.
- The holes of the connecting rods for the purpose of accurate fittings of the bearings should be parallel.
The connecting rod bearings are under a lot of stress from the force produced by the pistons. So, they should be lubricated properly to avoid untimely wear.
