Engine knock Sensor can be caused by using lower octane gas than is recommended by the manufacturer. Even an over advanced ignition timing can cause engine knock sensor. It can also be caused by a "hot spot" in the combustion chamber.
Functions of Knock Sensor
- Engine Knock Sensor monitors engine operation to optimize performance.
- Engine knock Sensor protects the engine against power-robbing and engine knock.
- Engine Knock Sensor detects knock/irregular vibrations and sends information to the electronic engine management control unit.
- The knock sensor is designed to sense when fuel is burning unevenly which cause "knocking" or irregular vibrations in the engine.
- The engine knock sensor consists of an electric coil that is wound around two ceramic rods with a magnet in the center.
