An Oil Filter is a device to remove impurities from the oil as it circulate through the lubrication system. Usually, the filter is a cellulose or synthetic material in a steel housing. It also has a drain back valve to prevent oil from running out when the engine is off. For easy removal and installation, oil filters with convenient spin-on design is also available.

The filter part is usually made of cellulose wood fiber and synthetic fiber; paper, cotton and polyester. The housing of the filters can be made of steel and aluminum

Functions of Motorcycle Oil Filter
  • The main function of the motorcycle oil filter is to strain out contaminants and give a free flow through the engine, so that it does not act as an abrasive when the oil circulates.
  • In the circulating process, the motorcycle oil filter protects the engine, making it durable and work smoothly.

Maintenance of Oil Filters
Proper maintenance of the oil filter is necessary for the proper working of the engine.
  • Motorcycle Oil Filter should be preferably replaced at least every second oil change, say at every 3,000 miles or 3 months.
  • The steel screen can be cleaned with kerosene, aerosol or any agent to wash away the grease.
  • They should be put back properly at the correct position.
