Functions of Regulator/Rectifier
The regulator/rectifier perform two separate functions:
- The rectifier part of the Regulator/Rectifier convert AC into regulated DC.
- The regulator part supply the required load to keep the voltage within specified limits. It does so by consuming the excess electrical power as heat.
- Instead of preventing its formation, it "soaks up" excess electricity.
- The worst enemy of the Regulator/Rectifier is overheat. It happens mostly in hotter climates. For preventing overheating, a cooling fan can be placed on its top.
- Proper grounding of the Regulator/Rectifier is necessary for the proper functioning of the battery.
- The connections should be checked regularly and can be coated with dielectric grease.
