Speedometer

Speedometer is a meter fixed to a vehicle for measuring and displaying its speed either numerically or by means of a needle on a dial. A flexible rotating cable is fixed between the final output of the transmission and the speedometer. A speedometer measures the speed of a moving vehicle.

Uses of Motorcycle Speedometer

• It tells how fast the vehicle is traveling per hour in miles or kilometers.
• Besides providing the information about the speed of the vehicle, speedometers are also used in many other applications. Engine computers, cruise control, transmission shifting and some anti-lock brake systems are affected by speed input.

Checking Accuracy of Speedometer
It is of extreme importance that the motorcycle speedometer give accurate information about the speed of the vehicle. The best way is to check the time taken to drive one mile. The bridge and ramp locations can also affect the mile marker positioning. For a consistent reading, the speed should be checked for several consecutive miles and if the recorded time is not consistent then another set of mile markers should be tried again.

Maintenance of Motorcycle Speedometer
For an accurate result of the motorcycle speedometer, it is important to use the same tire, wheel size and gearing during modifications or part changing. Speedometer with a stout connector cord should be chosen for durability.
